it was such a waste

all my love I had given
so more did they take
I could have been so
many things

my life and my choices
such paths did they take
I suppose the choices
were mine for the making

But none but Fate would
undertake such risk
for there was naught to spare
save what one could afford themselvess

Such creation we did envision
as the incumbent Lords of sea and sky
What revolution would await the faithful
would it be worth it for
those about to die
For there would be no such thing
as a lost or worthless cause

Those were the days of hubris
we thought we could do no wrong
we shook our fists at the gods
themselves
as a symbol and gesture:

push on. fuck off.

We were youth a’plenty
before the Internet came
no record of our foolish ways
save an odd photo
or at times, an early grave

how could we ever have known
that it would all be for nothing
the ebb and flow of ideals and
dreams
lost to the quagmire of
lost love
broken promises
betrayal, greed

all our love to give, yet it blew up in our faces
we could have become so many things, but
at the end of it all,
it wound up such a waste
