Hi ! I’m Carrie.

I am a queer, trans non-binary multi-disciplinary artist based in Vancouver, B.C. My passion is in disrupting the status quo by showing my viewers truth in the subjects I explore. Truth that is far too often left behind in the filters and propaganda proliferating social media platforms. Truth that more often than not makes people think, or better yet — makes people uncomfortable.

Most of my work is created using photography, as well as writing and performing unique poetry. I also have been known to create and sell handcrafted, timeless, bespoke jewelry, pendants, and accessories from time to time. I also occasionally dabble in printmaking, textile arts, and collage when inspiration and opportunity comes knocking.

I tend to focus on creating work that centers mental illness, trauma, disability, poverty, and social issues, as I am a fellow member of many of these communities. I have lived experience in mental illness, disability, poverty, and other areas of marginalization. I am passionate about ethics and believe in equitable, compassionate care and treatment for people who survive in a world where they exist (and often suffer) in intersecting areas of oppression, however that looks to them.

Our Hustle, Our Struggle, Our Art

Carrie Hill was the photographer for Our Hustle, Our Struggle, Our Art, a community art exhibition grounded in long-standing partnerships between PACE Society, WISH Drop-In Centre Society, Kingsway Community Station, and the AESHA Project (a longstanding community-based research project at the University of British Columbia).

We chose to work with Carrie because of their unique ability to combine technical excellence with deep relational care. Carrie was extraordinarily professional, organized, and responsive, while also being deeply attuned to the unique needs of our project. From the outset, they approached the photography of our exhibition with a deep understanding of what it means to witness people on their own terms. Carrie was relational, communicative, and intentional. They took the time to understand the purpose and context of our project and to move at the speed of trust with everyone involved.

The care Carrie brought to each interaction is visible in the final images, which our team could not be happier with! We wholeheartedly recommend Carrie for any photography needs you may have, whether they be personal, community, or work-related. Carrie is truly exceptional, and we can’t wait to collaborate again!

Amazing experience! Carrie was our wedding photographer and they did an absolutely fantastic job. They worked around various disabilities in the wedding party and family, always checking in to make sure everyone was comfortable and at ease. Amazing photos, great customer service

Carrie is awesome! Amazing photos, great customer service, and very good at pretending to just be testing a new camera when it was actually a booked photo shoot for my partner to propose! We also have her booked to do our engagement photos (we keep postponing due to COVID) and to do our wedding photos in 2022, which I’m sure will be just as great or even better than our proposal photos!

I have done a lot of photo shoots, but working with Carrie was one of the easiest and most comfortable experiences I've had! As a photographer Carrie did a great job of putting me at ease, guiding the poses and shots, and encouraging me to feel sexy during a boudoir shoot when we were just meeting for the first time. In addition to the ease with models, the photos were technically beautiful, with excellent use of light and framing. Overall, a very positive experience and I would absolutely recommend!
