FAQ’s: Untitled Mental Health Photo Project

The Mission of the Project

To organically document the realities, the experiences, and the words of people living with mental illness.

The Process

1-2 rolls of film per person. 24-36 images per roll. You can be as dressed or as undressed as you like. You can be in as good or as bad a headspace, as you like. We can meet anywhere, do anything, discuss anything you would want to share about your experience. Good, bad, and ugly is all welcome.

Will I (Carrie) participate?

Yes. I plan to do a self-portrait series on the same theme, as someone who also lives with mental illness.

Do I have the right to withdraw from this project?

Absolutely, without question or justification.

Is there any sort of compensation?

Not at this time. If I manage to secure any funding, this will hopefully change.

Do I get the photographs?

I will provide you with one 5x7 of 2 of your favourite images at no charge because you deserve something for your time. Any additional images are subject to pricing (refer to the Shop for details).

Is there paperwork involved?

You will be required to sign a model release. Due to the nature of the subject matter, all photo subjects must be 18 or over. You will be given a copy of the release for your own records.

What if I don't like my photos?

Ultimately the final say is up to the photographer; however, any requests regarding refraining from using specific images will be taken into account when putting together any finished work.

How can I sign up to participate?

Contact me! You will need to live in the greater Vancouver area, or in Nanaimo or Victoria on Vancouver Island. Unfortunately due to lack of access to a vehicle, I cannot drive to other places unless there is some kind of transportation arrangement made.

What kind of camera will you be using?

I'll be using a Nikon F4s, a Nikon EL-2, and a medium format camera (type to be determined).

What kind of film will you be using?

For black & white, I will be using Kodak BW400CN film.

For colour, I’m using whatever I have in my arsenal that strikes me as advantageous to use :)
