Holga Week hasn’t been going as expected.

I had told myself that I was going to shoot a roll in my Holga for each day of the first week of October.
I 100% lied to myself.

I should have known that it wouldn’t be the case that I could pull it off.
With the shortening days and the sheer exhaustion I have been up against lately, I will likely only complete one roll of film.

That all said — I don’t see this as a failure, really! More of a teachable moment in that a) I’m doing what I told myself that I would do, which is success unto itself, but b) perhaps I should work on setting less ambitious goals and more realistic based on my current capacity. And that’s okay. In all likelihood, it will likely be better for my productivity, anyhow.

In terms of upcoming photo sessions…

I have an engagement shoot taking place in just over a week, which is always exciting! I’m already looking forward to sharing the sneak-peeks with you all, which for many reasons I can’t name just yet are going to be brilliant.

This amazing, hilarious, and ridiculously adorable couple are planning the coolest themed wedding I’ve ever heard of, and I have been counting my blessings that they’ve put their faith in me to do their engagement & wedding sessions. Even better still — I had the pleasure of photographing their SURPRISE proposal just last year!

I have no doubt that their engagement session is going to be filled with laughter and good times all around.

Upcoming Interesting Things!

I’m going to be on a podcast!!

Yeah - for real!

A dear friend of mine who runs this new, upcoming, and frankly, epic podcast about living as humans in the era of COVID-19 called “Class Podcast,” which is available on Spotify. The date is to be determined, but the paperwork is signed, and it looks like I will be sharing my life and work as a photographer. I’ll send an email blast to the folks on my mailing list with the where and when. If you are interested in checking out Class Podcast while I’m on it, please join my mailing list! Not only do you receive an awesome discount to the Carrie Hill Creative shop, but you’ll be notified when ultra-cool things are going on. The mailing list subscription can be found on the bottom of every page on this site - so get hooked up and let’s roll!

I found out some sad news today, too.

The Canadian Art Foundation is shuttering.

The pandemic has been absolutely BRUTAL to Canadian publications. Photo Life stopped circulating around six months ago, and now Canadian Art Gallery is going. As a Canadian, this is deeply concerning to me because this makes it even more difficult to publish work within one’s own country. I really think that the next year or so is going to be quite indicative of just how significantly a pandemic can affect high-cost industries such as photo publications.

It’s such a shame.

If you have the funds to spare, support your fellow artists, or support your local publications! (Shameless plug to my in-house patronage options here!)

Trust me - we all need the support. I don’t know a single artist who isn’t struggling right now.

(Except you, Mike. I see you.)
